What is the history of ice cream?

Far away from the confines of Asia and the Middle East, the true history of ice cream and its popularization began to show itself in Europe. Though various versions of ice cream first surfaced outside of Europe, it was here that the delicious dessert began to slowly morph into the modern ice cream we all know and love today.
